Trend: The roaring 20ies
The decade between the aftermath of World War and the 1929 Wall Street crash became a flourishing period for economic prosperity, social, artistic, and cultural dynamism. The 20ies women started to wear shorter skirts, short hair (the bob) and excessive makeup, and behaved casually towards, smoking, drinking and sex.
20ies influences at the catwalks
Almost all designers had 20ies influences on the spring/summer 2012 catwalks last fall. Gucci represents the extravagant art deco direction, Alberta Ferretti is glamming it up, and Ralph Lauren goes for a romantic twist.
How to get the 20ies style
In my opinion the most successful way to adapt a trend is to choose items from the trend and blend it with contemporary pieces and make it a part of your personal style. If you adapt a trend from top to toe, the result can come out at a carnival outfit more than a trendy composition. To carry off the 20ies tendency, you can go bananas in some of the characteristic items typical for the period:
• Fringe flapper dress
• Silk pyjama trousers
• Hair pieces like hair band, feather hairclip, pearl fringe wig, turban, tulle and a cloche hat
• Long pearl necklaces and collar pearl necklaces
• Crystal necklaces
• Feather boas
• Silk and sequins
• Art deco patterns
• And put on some jazz...
