Moods of Norway A/W 2012

As always, Moods of Norway completed Oslo Fashion Week with a spectacular show. This year´s theme was Cocktail Mountaineering, as homage to the Norwegian mountains.

The venue, Vulkan in Oslo, was decorated with large, glazy mountain peaks and icy glow lights. This time I was especially curious about what Moods of Norway had to offer for Autumn/Winter 2012. I had already spotted the Moods of Norway founders Peder Børresen, Simen Staalnacke and Stefan Dahlquist, earlier this fashion week, in Moods-outfits that seemed less like circus and more like real fashion. Thus, my expectations were pretty high.

The collections

The show opened with their casual collection. Handsome men from the golden 20ies in climbing equipment and hipster moustaches entered the catwalk, wearing suits and casualwear in grey, blue, olive, orange and burgundy.

Moods want to see women in short dresses and pyjama trousers with a vintage feel. The same mellow, but yet deep, colours for women as for men. Models´ hair and makeup were beautiful!

The sports collection was without surprises: Typical practical, typical Norwegian and typical snowboard.

The cocktail collection included well-tailored, elegant suits for men, and patterned and shiny fabrics dresses for women, both knee-high and long. Very nice, very wearable, and with tailoring we have seen before. The models had to navigate around five smokin´ hot girls with an energetic dance show that set all audience in good mood. The magnificent bling styling made by Tommy Løland was a reminder of that this is Moods of Norway after all. We also got a finalization in Moods of Norway spirit, when the founders entered the catwalk, showering themselves and the audience with magnum bottles of bubbles.

Overall my impression is that most of the creativity is laid into the men’s collections. The women’s clothes are nice, wearable, but not very innovative. The clothes were more in focus than usual this year, without the Moods of Norway party factor suffering from that.

About Moods of Norway

Moods of Norway tractor• The Stryn locals Peder Børresen and Simen Staalnacke conceived the idea of a clothing brand built on Norwegian traditions in 2003. Stephan Dahlquist hooked up with them shortly after.

• They established the brand Moods of Norway in 2004 in Stryn, where the main office is situated today.

• The logo is a pink Fergusson TE20 tractor, and all men’s suits are marked with the number of registered tractors in Norway.

• Their motto is “happy clothes for happy people,” and overdressed is a foreign word for them.

• Moods of Norway have clothes for men and women, divided into the lines casual, cocktail and street. They also have sports, shoes, accessories and eyewear lines.

• The brand is distributed in Europe, United States and Asia. Their next goal is to expand their USA presence with a store in Soho, New York.
