Fashion mindfulness
Soon to be seen are all the great fashionistas dressed up for fashion week events, in all the great cities of the world. What to wear? The it-pieces for this season? The must haves from the upcoming spring/summer collections? A uniquely styled outfit partly DIY and design on sale? What about the shoes? What will the weather be like? Snow? Slush? Could I wear my high heels, or do they need to be nicely tucked away in the bag, while the slightly unsexy outdoor footwear does its job in keeping the feet dry and warm.
There are many options and twice as many questions - its not necessarily easy to prepare for the mingling in the world of fashion. Not to mention - it all definitely need to look effortless. To some of you, you might already be exhausted by the thought of preparing and bothering yourself with so many unnecessary and trivial matters. To others, your tummy might tickle and you cant wait to look into your closet and start planning.
Personally I am something in between. If I have the time, I could really enjoy a late night home alone, throwing my closet out on the bed, trying out hundreds of outfits, the mixes and matches and all the do´s and the don´t ´s. But on the actual day, I would normally be slightly hesitating whether I made the right choice or not. The weather would probably be quite the opposite on what I planned it to be like. My tummy would probably look slightly bigger compared to when I tried the outfit on some days before. And to top it all I would have probably twisted my foot the day before, so that the shoes of my dreams would need to be replaced with a pair of flats that of course would ruin the whole outfit, and the pieces I carefully chose would no longer serve its purpose.
OK this would, superficially considered, probably be a worst case scenario. But still, it sure says something about the pressure going on in peoples mind these days.
Of course, there´s another side to this fashion circus; what you are about to see and learn about the season six months ahead of you is the essential part, and to most of us, the yummy surprise.
The last few days I have been reading a book named "Wherever you go, there you are" by Jon Kabat-Zinn. Its a book about mindfulness, which I am truly in need of since I am constantly focusing on future goals and tend to forget the everyday life, turning my attention away from what happens this moment. So when the presentations of the fall 2012 collections soon appear and are spread online, I will make sure to dig deep into the new colors, the patterns, the cuts and the styling and really try to embrace each new impression in order to enjoy and prepare for the upcoming fall wardrobe. Not to solely plan ahead of course, but to already start feeling, enjoying and even trying to adapt the upcoming fall trends during this season´s next few winter months. Thats mindfulness for sure. Enjoying each moment, each detail in fashion. Actually when I come to think of it, fashion could definitely provide mindfulness. Amazing! What a good excuse to have up your sleeve...
Enjoy the FALL/WINTER 2012-2013 soon to come to a front row near you.
